There is a massive gridlock in the Congress. The House of Representatives has a small Republican majority and the Senate is controlled by the Democrats. Very little actually gets done to help us seniors. Once the election cycle for the 2024 elections gets going even less will get done in the Congress.
Both Social Security and Medicare are going broke because more money is going out each year than is coming in.
Currently, the Congress funds Medicare and Medicaid out of general revenues. You may have heard that we have a $31,500,000,000,000.00 Federal deficit. There are annual budget deficits that exceed $1,000,000,000,000.00 for THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE!!!!!
As to Social Security, the pundits tell us that there is a Social Security Trust Fund which has about $2,900,000,000,000.00 in it. First, there is NO TRUST FUND. That was a fiction created many years ago to calm the public. Second, the money in the so-called trust fund IS GONE!! It was spent many years ago by prior members of Congress. What is in the fund are worthless IOUs from the Federal government. Remember, we have massive Federal debt which I doubt we will ever be able to pay back. Where is the money going to come from to pay off those IOUs as they come due?????
Seniors are looking at some very serious trouble coming down the road. This is especially true of those of us who are on fixed incomes. We are already been hurt badly by the inflation that is eating up our income and our savings. This problem is going to stay with us for many years to come. Business owners will only lower their prices when they are losing customers because prices are too high.
Please take a moment and get in touch (call, write a letter and/or send them an email) with your local Federal representative from California and both of our U.S. senators. Most seniors do not want any changes to our current Social Security and Medicare systems. It is critical that Congress find ways to work
together to save both of those vital systems. If not, we seniors are going to suffer unbelievable negative consequences. In short, we are in for very bad times!!!!
